Buxus can be evergreen shrubs or small trees, with simple, leathery, opposite leaves and clusters of small, pale yellow flowers followed by pale green to brown fruits. Box topiary are a great way to keep structure and shape in the garden all year round. Location: Ideal for flanking an entrance, marking the corners of a hedge, or in terracotta pots on the patio. Plant in well-drained soil in partial shade. Avoid scorch by sun and strong winds. As an informal hedge, box requires little pruning. Care: Keep plants to the desired size by pruning back long shoots. Hedging plants and topiary can be cut back hard when young to encourage bushy growth.
