A compact clumping (with short rhizomes) evergreen perennial growing to 2-4 feet tall and spreading slowly outwards. It has ¼ to ½ inch wide foliage that is a yellow-green on the upper surface and a blue-green on the more visible lower surface and held in uniform upright fans. In spring into summer appear the nearly 3 foot tall inflorescences that rise above the tips of the foliage bearing deep violet blue flowers.
Site & Soil: Under glass, grow in loam-based compost in full light with shade from hot sun. In growth, water freely & feed weekly. Outdoors in frost-free areas, grow in moderately fertile, humus-rich, well-drained, neutral to acid soil in sun or part shade.
Hardiness: Hardy in coastal/mild areas except in hard winters and at risk from sudden/early frosts. Can survive with artificial winter protection.
Eventual Height & Spread: 90cm x 60cm.
