Dicksonia antarctica 70L 150cm

Dicksonia are evergreen tree ferns, but may be deciduous in cold area. They have a stout, trunk-like rhizome clothed in fibrous roots that bears a fan of large, divided fronds that unfold from spiraled, fuzzy shoots. They are slow growing to 4m in height with dark green foliage spreading to 3m. Winter protection is usually essential and can be done by wrapping the stop of the trunk in fleece or with straw.

Additional Information

Site & Soil: Grow outdoors in a moist but well-drained humus-rich soil. In hot, dry summers water the stem but avoid watering the crown in winter. Will grow without winter protection only in milder areas.

Hardiness: Hardy in coastal/mild areas except in hard winters and at risk from sudden/early frosts. Can survive with artificial winter protection.

Eventual Height & Spread: 2.5-4m x 2.5-4m.
