Also known as Red flowering Escallonia, Rubra macrantha is a popular hedging shrub to have in the garden due to its vibrant colours and unique appearance. It will produce masses of stunning bright, dark pink or red flowers that are bell-shaped and stand proudly against glossy, dark green leaves from June to October. Plant in well-drained soil in full sun or light shade. Pruning, when required, is generally carried out in mid to late spring.
