Fatsia japonica has large, glossy green leaves that are lobed, resembling a maple leaf shape. Foliage is held on long spreading stems. Small rounded flowers are produced in clusters in October. This shrub is ideal in a shady spot or in a large pot, or can even be suitable as an indoor plant if kept in a cool area of the house. Plant in moist but well-drained soil in full sun or part shade. Pruning, when required, is generally carried out in mid to late spring.
