Prunus can be deciduous or evergreen trees or shrubs with showy flowers in spring, and often good autumn foliage colour. Some have edible fruit in autumn, and a few species have ornamental bark. Another reliable, self-fertile plum, ‘Victoria’ produces pale red fruit that is blushed with yellow from August to September. The fruits are generally used for culinary purposes. Plant a sunny, sheltered location with well-drained soil.
